Dear FEC Members,
I would be grateful to know your views on three issues:
1. Nest year the World GC Championship will be held in London in July 2011. Will that have any effect on your ability to send players to:
(a) the European Team Championship at Chetlenham in late June 2011; and
(b) a European Golf Croquet Championship in May or June 2011?
2. The World Team Championship will be held in August 2010 and then next in 2014, the same year as the next MacRobertson Shield competition.
Will the choice of venue affect your ability to send a team to the 2014 event? The possibilities are currently:
(a) New Zealand; and
(b) the UK and Ireland.
3. The August 2010 WTC is organised in tiers so that teams play teams of approximately equal strength. However, this also means that the weaker teams do not get the opportunity to see croquet played by the best players. Does this matter?
Another possible format for 2014 is to have one Tier 2 event consisting of two large blocks each of which contains teams ranging from the strongest (apart from those competing in the MacRobertson Shield) to the weakest. The winners of each block would play off for the Tier 2 title. This would mean that the weakest teams would play some much stronger teams. Would this be wanted or not?
The question is therefore whether your association would prefer:
(a) a tiered event as in 2010 in which your team would play teams of similar standard; or
(b) a “large block” event in which your team would play teams of various standards.
I appreciate that you will need time to discuss these questions and I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
